Jane Grimson

Jane Grimson was the first woman to graduate in Engineering from Trinity College Dublin in 1970, following which she obtained her Masters and Doctorate in Computer Science from the Universities of Toronto and Edinburgh, respectively. She joined the Department of Computer Science in Trinity College Dublin as a lecturer in 1980 where she is now an Associate Professor. She was Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Systems Sciences from 1996 to 1999. Her main areas of research are in database systems and in the applications of Information and Communications Technology in health.

Jane Grimson is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Ireland, of the Irish Academy of Engineering, of Trinity College, the Irish and British Computer Societies and of the Royal Academy of Medicine. She is also a member of IEEE, ACM, and of the Irish Council for Science, Technology and Innovation. She is Chairperson of the Board of Management of Mount Temple Comprehensive School and a member of the Governing Body of Institute of Technology in Tallaght. She is currently the President of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland.
