Farkhonda M. Hassan, Ph.D.

Dr. Farkhonda is a Professor of Geology in the American University in Cairo. She is the Secretary General of the National Council for Women In Egypt.

Dr. Farkhonda earned her B.Sc. in Geology from Cairo university in Egypt. She got a Diploma in Psychology and Education from Ain Shams University in Egypt. She earned a M.S. in Solid State Science from the American University in Cairo, and a Ph.D. in Geology from University of Pittsburgh, U.S.A.

Dr. Farkhonda has severed as a member of the Shura Council for 1984-1989, and from 1992 till now as Head of the Human Resources and Local Administration committee. She has also served as member of the Public National Assembly from 1979 to 1984. She is a member of the General Secretarial of the Political Office of the National Democratic Party at the country level. In 1995, President Mubarak appointed her the Head of the Women's Sector of the Party.

Dr. Farkhonda had a lifetime commitment to the advancement of women and chaired several national and international committees on women development. She has authored a large number of scientific articles in her field of specialization (Geology), and in the field of Science and Technology for Development and Environment in both international and national journals.
Dr. Farkhonda was granted the medal of Science and Art of the first Degree in 1980.
