
Dr.
Jennie Hwang
In
her 25-year stellar career following a 21-year formal
education (Ph.D., MA, MS, BS), Dr. Hwang has been eminently
successful in both technology and business arenas. She
is accomplished in corporate and entrepreneurial businesses
-- having held senior managerial positions with Lockheed
Marietta Corp., SCM, and IEM, and founded two entrepreneurial
businesses.
Internationally
renowned as a pioneer in the field of Surface Mount
Technology (the backbone of modern electronics), Dr.
Hwang has been instrumental in developing technologies
that make cell phones work better, Internet access faster,
and has even helped solve some of the engineering problems
with the U.S. Department of Defense F-22 project.
Hwang
is a worldwide speaker and the author of over 150 publications
and several textbooks (published by McGraw-Hill, Japanese
and European publishers) in leading technologies. She
holds nine patents. As a columnist for SMT Magazine,
Dr. Hwang addresses critical industry issues in her
monthly editorials. Her books, columns, and publications
have been widely cited in the industry worldwide. She
also authored many articles related to trade, business,
education and social agenda including diversity and
woman issues.
Hwang
earned two masters from Kent State University's Liquid
Crystal Institute and Columbia University in Chemistry.
She became the first woman to earn a doctorate from
Case Western University in materials engineering.
Among
her many awards and honors, she is the recipient of
the distinguished alumni awards from both universities--
Kent Van Horn Distinguished Alumni Award from Case Western
Reserve University and ChengKung University, and an
inductee to the WITI HALL OF FAME.
She
has held numerous women-pioneering capacities. While
receiving the YWCA-CLEVELAND WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD,
citation was read as: "the first woman" is a way of
life of Dr. Jennie Hwang. She has distinguished herself
as the first woman holding the national presidency of
the Surface Mount Technology Association, the first
and only woman from the State of Ohio elected to the
National Academy of Engineering, Dr. Hwang serves on
various boards and committees, contributing to government
policy, corporate governance, educational institutes
and the community.
Science
and technology have been her avocation but, the advancement
of women in business and technology has been Dr. Hwang's
passion. As a worldwide traveler with keen interest
in education and technology, she has set an endowment
fund at her Alma Mater, dedicating to the education
of women in science/engineering and acquiring global
exposures. As the chair of the Public Policy of IPC,
Dr. Hwang has presented before Congress on government
policies that affect women. Her speeches and publications
and personal interaction with women have provided inspiration.
Keynote speeches and editorials have included titles
such as "Modern Women", "Women in Technology", "Affirmative
Action-Principle & Practice", and "Technology, Education,
and Workforce".
She
is currently the president of H-Technologies Group Inc.,
which provides business and manufacturing solutions
to electronics industry, focusing on partnership and
joint ventures in three continents. She is also the
Acting CEO of FreeDonation.com, Inc. This innovative
Internet Company provides everyone the opportunity to
donate to worthy causes free of charge.
Her
hobbies include ballroom dance, investment, business
modeling and selected world affairs. Hwang has two children,
both graduated Cum Laude from Hawken School- a son,
Raymond, attending Harvard Medical School after having
completed a BS and MS from MIT Computer Engineering
and a daughter, Rosalind, a junior at Wellesley College.
