Senior Research Engineer
LG Electronics
Eunok Paek is a senior research engineer of LG Electronics'
central research organization, called LG Corporate Institute
of Technology. LG Electronics is a leading manufacturer
of home appliances, better known by its brand name,
"Goldstar". LGCIT has been a research organization for
LG group, but currently its R & D activities are focused
on electronics and telecommunication.
During the past few years, Eunok has been a leader of
R & D projects for developing software for digital televisions,
functions of which range from user interface and closed
caption decoding to device drivers and embedded database
management system. Her previous projects had to do with
providing natural and easy-to-use human interface software,
by using various technologies from artificial intelligence
and natural language processing.
Before joining LGCIT in 1995, she spent 4 years as a
lecturer and research associate at Seoul National University.
Her classes were mainly on artificial intelligence and
mathematical logic, and her research interests were
on providing a formal framework for knowledge representation
and reasoning.
Eunok holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering
from Seoul National University and a PhD in Computer
Science from Stanford University.
Eunok is a member of the boards of directors of the
Association of Korean Women Scientists and Engineers,
a non-profit organization to provide a forum for women
scientists and engineers in Korea. She is also a member
of the Women Information Scientists Association.
