Dr.-Ing. Burghilde Wieneke-Toutaoui
Burghilde Wieneke-Toutaoui, born 1958, is married with
three children. Born in the small town Dulmen in the
Westphalian part of Germany, she started her studies
of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University
of Berlin in 1976. In 1982, she received her Diploma
Degree from this University and started as a research
engineer at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production
and Design Technology (FhG-IPK). Her field of work was
facilities planning and she has done projects with most
of the automotive companies in Germany and a lot of
other medium and large sized companies. During this
work she realized her idea of a simulation system to
support facilities planning. In 1987 she received the
Doctoral Degree from the Technical University. Shortly
before that she was appointed group manager at the FhG-IPK.
In 1990 she became professor for Industrial Engineering
at the University of Applied Sciences Berlin, department
of Mechanical Engineering. Since then she has also been
actively involved in the field of Women in Engineering,
inside her university and within the Association of
Engineers (VDI), where she is in the following functions
today: Spokeswoman for the Women in Engineering within
the VDI, Member of the board of VDI, Member of the board
of Directors of Berlin-Brandenburg Branch of VDI.
Since 1998 she is responsible for the co-operation of
her university with a Korean university, where she has
since established an internship program and research
work in the area of Rapid Prototyping Technology and
is currently working on establishing a joint venture
company.
Her private interests are learning languages, learning
about cultural aspects of daily life all over the world,
the internet and her family.
