
Dr.
Patricia E. Wirth
Patricia Wirth received a B. A. in mathematics from
the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1971 and the
M. S. and D. Sc. degrees in Systems Science and Mathematics
from Washington University in St. Louis in 1978 and
1980. In 1981 she joined AT&T Bell Laboratories
in Holmdel, New Jersey, where she was a Member of Technical
Staff until 1985 when she became a Technical Manager
supervising performance modeling of AT&T's (now
Lucent's) 5ESS Switch. In 1990 she was appointed Head
of the Department of Teletraffic Theory and System Performance.
She is currently Functional Director of the Network
Design and Performance Analysis Department in AT&T
Labs where she leads a department of 50 experts chartered
to assess and improve the performance of AT&T's
networks, products and services.
She
chairs the AT&T Labs Fellowship Program that provides
financial and mentoring support to women and minorities
pursuing doctorates in the sciences and engineering;
this program was awarded the Presidential Award for
Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring
in 1998. She was the co-chair of the Technical Program
Committee for the 15th International Teletraffic Congress
and is currently a member of the International Advisory
Committee to the ITC. She has published numerous journal
articles in modeling and performance and is a frequent
invited speaker at technical conferences and universities.
In 1995 she received the YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry
Award. In 1996 she was awarded the Women of AT&T
Management /Executive Award. In 1997 she was named an
AT&T Fellow for the application of teletraffic theory,
network performance modeling and systems analysis leading
to world-class performance of the global AT&T Network.
In 1998 she was named a Master at the Unversity of Nebraska.
